In recent years, the international floriculture industries have been in a frenzy of orchid. Especially the 20% growth rate of phalaenopsis, the sales sweeps European, American and the Asian markets. Orchids used to be the collections of enshrinement are now widely applied in the general public. Taiwan is notoriously known as the Kingdom of orchids. In addition to its wealthy natural resources, with the government support, Taiwan orchids are promoted worldwide and find its way to rising star in the international floriculture markets.
In order to promote international orchid businesses, the Council of Agriculture of Executive Yuan (COA) has been actively collaborating with countries around the world. COA encourages research and development in inventing new breeds and leads in the finest foreign breeds. COA also announced the implementation of "the standards of planting and seedling" and other related regulations which help to strengthen the protection of the breeders’ rights. At the same time, on top of the basic principles of WTO/TRIPS frameworks, COA has mutual agreements with European Union, Japan and other countries which will accept local residents to apply Rights of Breeds among the signed countries. This is not only a major breakthrough in breed protection internationally, but also a great business application to distribute high quality breeds.
To continuously promoting the orchid industry, the Council of Agriculture of Executive Yuan (COA) has always been a strong support for Taiwan International Orchid Exhibition. COA has been providing persistent support to Taiwan Orchid plantation and hoping to organize the most beautiful exhibit, yet globally competitive, for the domestic and foreign guests. COA also hopes to create international trading opportunities for Taiwan in becoming the most professional orchid circulation platform worldwide. Tainan County is the ‘Hometown of Phalaenopsis’. It is located in the Chia-nan Plain, originally known as Na Ying, in southwestern Taiwan. The eastern side of the plain is hilly and slopes gently westwards to the plain. The Chia-nan Plain is facing the sea and surrounded by Mountains. This excellent geographical setting provides pleasant atmosphere, sufficient rainfalls for Tainan farmers to grow diverse agricultural products on this plain. Numerous agricultural products can be found in Tainan County, such as mango, papaya, pineapple, Taiwan porgy, milkfish etc. Tainan Orchid is the most important agricultural products among all.
Due to the perfect matching between mild climates and well-developed agricultural cultures in Tainan County, orchid sales is extremely active. The sales of Taiwan Phalaenopsis are noticeably high. The total orchid production area covers around 30% (about 52 hectares) of the whole Tainan County. Tainan County also owns the only orchid park in the whole country, which is called Taiwan Orchid Plantation (TOP). Currently, the first and second phase of development in TOP has completed. Around 330570 square meters are in volume production. TOP forecasts to have most orchid market share when the overall development is completed. TOP is also considered as one of the most important international Phalaenopsis production area.
Taiwan Orchid Plantation has continuously organized the Taiwan International Orchid Show in consecutive years. This exhibition not only provides hopes to local floral industry, but also brings business opportunities to the local tourism market. The annual Taiwan International Orchid Show shows a large number of decorative floral displays, plus exhibits many rare orchid breeds. Orchid growers diligently cultivate top-quality orchids to win the best-breed-trophy. In recent years, many innovative orchid planning were introduced to the enterprise landscape, decorative art, and blend with scientific technology. All these inventive elements were mixed together and made the Taiwan International Orchid Show a more diverse and attractive show to the general public.
TOP hopes to use the International Orchid Exhibition to promote domestic and international technical exchanges and expand export sales opportunities for the Taiwan Orchid businesses. Let the Taiwan orchid reaches to the world and make Taiwan the true ‘kingdom of orchids.’ We sincerely welcome everyone at home and abroad to attend an annual orchid feast organized by Taiwan Orchid Plantation in Tainan County. The show opens in March 8th to 17th, 2008.

Dear Sir/Madam,
We are much honored to invite you to take part Taiwan International Orchid Show 2008. Taiwan has been reputed as the Kingdom of Orchid. Taiwanese love orchids; and planting orchids have been an important pastime and hobby. The orchid industry has played an important role in all kinds of industries in the last few decades, and the annual international orchid show has become one of the famous tourist attractions. The 8th Asian Pacific Orchid Conference and Show attracted more than 3,500 overseas visitors, and Taiwan International Orchid Show 2005 recorded more than 200,000 visitors. These shows were well received by all fields.
Tainan County is a very important place for orchid production in Taiwan. The only orchid production base in Taiwan is also located in Tainan County and called as 'Taiwan Orchid Plantation' (T.O.P.). Taiwan International Orchid Show 2008 is scheduled to be held on March 8 (Sat) to March 17 (Mon) at T.O.P. In addition to the orchid competition of the show, we also arrange an international orchid symposium offered by world-renowned speakers and expert orchidists, three international orchid meetings, business matchmaking and talk in orchids and orchid-related materials, social programs, orchid nursery tours and so on.
